My prayer… as first spoken through Jabez:
‘Oh Lord, that You would bless us indeed,
and enlarge our territory,
that Your hand would be with us,
and that You would keep us from evil,
that we may not cause pain.’
And as it was with Jabez, it will be also with us…
“So God granted him what he requested.”
(1 Chronicles 4:10)
In 1 Chronicles 4:9 we are given the plight of Jabez… “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, Oh, that You would bless me indeed…” Jabez was cursed from birth by his mother who suffered great pain in childbirth, by naming him a name that in Hebrew means “pain”. But, what man has meant for harm, God will cause for good…
This I have come to know… that my God loves us all. HE gave His only Son to prove it. And this I now also know… HE has favorites. One such favorite is Jabez. And I can prove it… “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers” “So God granted him what he requested”. Also, we read in 1 Chronicles 4, what seems like an endless genealogy of the descendants of Judah, the story of Jabez, encapsulated in the middle. Why would God do that? I believe in no coincidences with God and that the Holy Bible is the absolute Word of God. So, why is Jabez so honorable, so special to God, a favorite?
I believe that the Light has been shed on this also… Jabez, amidst the deficiency, the obstacles, the shame, the persecution having been named an outcast, was an overcomer. Having faith, he knew to call on the God of Israel, the One who could overcome all deficiencies, all obstacles, all shame, all persecutions, having victory as the ultimate outcast.
What does it mean to call on the God of Israel? I know this to be… “ASK, and you will receive. SEEK, and you will find. KNOCK, and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7, Luke 11:9) “So God granted him what he requested.” (1 Chronicles 4:10)
When you hear HIS voice and open the door, HE will come in to you and dine with you, and you with HE. (Rev. 3:20) As this implies, an experience of supernatural, inexplicable, breathtaking, out-of-this-world (box), of epic proportion… ensues.
The Lord has a long list of favorites, of whom you and I are included. Anyone who seeks God with ALL their heart, soul, mind, and strength; who calls on HIM, will receive HIS BLESSING… indeed! Nothing more or nothing less than HE has predetermined, will be given. HE knows you are coming… HE has wrapped His blessings for you in exact measure, with precise purpose, and in effectual timing. What Earth father will give his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread? (Luke 11:11) HE knows what you need and you need what HE offers. ASK! SEEK! KNOCK! If we then, being flawed, can give to our children good gifts when they ask… How much more will our Father in heaven give to us, when we ask HIM! (Luke 11:13)
God grants what is requested… from a hungry, humble heart.
And as the prayer of Jabez brings a prayer home…
Oh, that You would bless me indeed… more, more, more,
and enlarge my territory… out of the box, through the barriers, to where You say “Go”,
that Your hand… both of them… would be with me,
and that You would keep me from evil… all that is unnecessary,
that I may not cause pain… Lord take me first before I give a poor witness of You.
My chains are gone. I’ve been set Free… to be HIS!
I’m Back! BUT… I am not who I was. My God has freed me from the chains of ‘religion’. I have been truly blessed with a vision and life purpose… I can see beyond the Cross. In 3D! I am no longer nailed to the Cross, any more than Jesus is. Nor should I hang there, or allow anyone else to place me there. I am free, indeed. I carried around the burden, the persecution, the stigma of sin as if it defined me. The Cross for me now having already picked it up, is to carry it as my reminder of who I serve and how far I have come… with HIM. The prayer of Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:10) now resides on my heart… and from it to God’s ears every morning. I not only desire and ask for the supernatural blessings of my Lord now, I expect them. And not just for me, but for the House I call home (the kingdom of God).
“ASK, and you will receive. SEEK, and you will find. KNOCK, and the door will be opened to you.” And… SEE what lies beyond the Cross… Remembering religiously, to love the One who sent you; to humble and submit yourself to the Giver, not the gifts. And ‘Behold! Jesus stands at the door and knocks. All who hear His voice and opens the door, He will come into them and dine with them and they with He.’ Praise the Living God! Free to be HIS, indeed! … jams4JESUS
Every morning I pray the ‘Prayer of Jabez’. A have read a small book titled “The Prayer of Jabez, Breaking Through to the Blessed Life” (2000) by Bruce Wilkinson. It served to confirm, validate, bless, and revolutionarily change my life. I do not know where the book came from or who placed it among my possessions, but I am forever THANKFUL. I found it exactly the time I needed it most.
The Lord has a plan and blessings, HE so desires to share. It is my hope, that when I lay on my face before my LORD GOD, that there be no gift from HIM… unwrapped; nor any barrier obstructing my way… to HIM. And so be it, my prayer for all… who call on HIS NAME!
Love In Christ… without limits!
