The Fine Print

NEWSFLASH… A friend of the family was caught cheating and now a divorce is eminent.    A friend of a friend’s father has been sent home on Hospice.  A Facebook friend’s status highlights their depression.  Your co-worker has just lost a loved one to suicide.  Your brother or sister is dying.  Your recently divorced neighbor has no job, but has 4 kids, and bills too numerous to pay.  Or maybe… you heard it said at the grocery store, at church, or on newzjunky, that a young couple has just received a death sentence or a prognosis of lifetime deformity, on behalf of their small child.

John 4:35
Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white  for harvest.

We all know somebody right now in dire straits.  So, this begs the question “What are we going to do about it?”  We can’t just sit here and watch His finger print and point… go unnoticed or tossed aside like chaff.

Hello ‘Christian’, can you read between the lines… the fields are white?  Those in need, don’t get much needier then when there is… a pending doom or loss.  They don’t just want us, they need us too… “HELP”.  If they were to follow our lead, our hope, our strength, they would be headed in the right direction.  Will we respond when called, whether as first responders or guides in the final chapter?  Will we be ready in every season?  Will our lamps be filled with joy to light the path, no matter the time of day?  As for me Lord… I pray it so.

EXTRA EXTRA… Or, maybe it is family, not living a life fit for pigs, who now want to ‘get together’; a friend or roommate with a chronic illness, who seeks an addiction to pain killers for an answer to healing; or the person who sits next to you in church, who looks completely different on the outside???  Will we still see what lies before us, even that which is not spelled out for us, and answer with the Truth?  And if we can’t see, Lord we PRAY WISDOM; to read all about it where Truth doesn’t lie [The Holy Bible].  This fine print is important.

And Jesus said…  “Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.”

We no longer have to be concerned with if or when, but… of what and how, we make a choice to reap.  “We reap what we sow, more than we sow, and later than we sow.” [Dr. Charles Stanley]  So[w], there is no question whether we reap, but what?  We would be hard pressed to settle for less than A+ proficiency in our national and global security systems, our government, military operations and economic affairs [whether here or abroad], our modern communications and state-of-the-art technologies, our marketing, investment, and business strategies, our policies for ‘no child left behind’, our Hallelujahs before the synagogues, and our routine schedules for everyday life…

But what about a certain man who was kicked to the side of the curb, and left on course to die? And what will become of all those placed before us now, who are stranded, alone and crying… for such a time when “Christians” are needed for praying and prying… the most?!

John 4:35
Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white  for harvest.

Sometimes I feel so alone… in the ‘The Fine Print’.  I feel like a voice that cries out, only to have my words fall on deaf ears.  You say to me “But what do I say and what do I do when I get there… standing before the harvest?”   Great question!  “Listen, pray, again listen, and when the Lord says “go”… ANSWER them from the Voice… God gives you.  Because He assures me, that when we go… He’ll be there.  Go out in faith, speaking the Gospel Truths… one day, one person, one harvest, at a time.”

‘Wheat from the chaff’ … ‘chaff to the Wheat’:

“Editor: a person employed by a newspaper, whose business it is to separate the wheat from the chaff, and to see that the chaff is printed.”

– Elbert Hubbard
A quote from a worldrenowned Editor and Publisher

Elbert Hubbard’s best-known work came after he founded Roycroft, an Arts and Crafts movement community in East Aurora, New York in 1895. This grew from his private press, the Roycroft Press.

Hubbard edited and published two magazines, The Philistine and The Fra. The Philistine was bound in brown butcher paper and full of satire and whimsy. (Hubbard himself quipped that the cover was butcher paper because: “There is meat inside.”) The Roycrofters produced handsome, if sometimes eccentric, books printed on handmade paper, and operated a fine bindery, a furniture shop, and shops producing modeled leather and hammered copper goods. They were a leading producer of Mission Style products.

And in 1912, after the famed passenger liner the Titanic was sunk when hitting an iceberg, Hubbard wrote of the disaster, singling out the story of Ida Straus, who as a woman was supposed to be placed on a lifeboat in precedence to the men, but she refused to board the boat: “Not I—I will not leave my husband. All these years we’ve traveled together, and shall we part now? No, our fate is one.”

Hubbard then added his own stirring commentary:

“Mr. and Mrs. Straus, I envy you that legacy of love and loyalty left to your children and grandchildren. The calm courage that was yours all your long and useful career was your possession in death. You knew how to do three great things—you knew how to live, how to love and how to die. One thing is sure, there are just two respectable ways to die. One is of old age, and the other is by accident. All disease is indecent. Suicide is atrocious. But to pass out as did Mr. and Mrs. Isador Straus is glorious. Few have such a privilege. Happy lovers, both. In life they were never separated and in death they are not divided.”

jams4JESUS [hope it moves you] commentary:

I am sorry for your loss, but I see no honor in death…
without JESUS.
I claim no loyalty to a legacy of love…
absent of The LORD’s inheritance.
I see no integrity in paper and print…
without The WORD of the Living God.
No matter how eloquent the speech, or how gifted the teller, the end is…

“The End”… without JESUS.

Jeremiah 23:28
American King James Version
The prophet that has a dream, let him tell a dream;
and he that has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the
chaff to the wheat? said the LORD.

(FYI… “On May 1, 1915, little more than three years after the sinking of the Titanic, the Hubbards boarded the Lusitania in New York City.  And on May 7, 1915, while at sea, it was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine Unterseeboat 20.”  [])

Luke 3…

7 Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 9 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
10 So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?”
11 He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”
12 Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”
13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than what is appointed for you.”
14 Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?”
So he said to them, “Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.”
15 Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not, 16 John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.”
