“If you’re looking forward to Heaven, with an enemy and the World behind you, but you’re sitting on a fence between how to get from the one place to the other [while your family has your back]… where does that leave them?”
The king then gave orders, and they brought those men who had maliciously accused Daniel, and they cast them, their children and their wives into the lions’ den; and they had not reached the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones. [Daniel 6:24]
I have had numerous people lately say to me ‘the Bible has so many horrific stories of how God ordered this, God allowed that, or God mistreats &/or kills women & children’ and that they find it unbelievable. And, as you or I can see from the example in Daniel 6, we can understand where they are coming from. So I asked Him again “But what do You say Lord?” “What do I make of & take away from all these things? And what do I tell them?” Then He brought me to Daniel, and opened a window. 😎
Honestly, if you have read very far into the Bible, attend a church, or have been around “Christians” very long to hear the stories… you’ve read or heard about the battles, the trials & tribulations, of those killed, persecuted, or kicked to the curb, & about some of the other unfair or not-so-great sounding things of how The Story & ours are told. I think my first reaction to some of these things was shock & disbelief that such a thing could happen on God’s watch. And, even when the smoke had cleared, the enemy departed, and the book closed, I couldn’t help but ask “Why?” & wonder “How can a God who loves me [us], do or allow this?”
Ok, maybe it’s just me, but this had been eating at me, and not just for me… for you. I KNOW GOD LOVES ME & YOU! I KNOW He has His & our best interests in mind and at heart. And I KNOW we are one of His best interests & investments. He sent His Son to secure us! So I asked Him.
And, this is what I found…
[The Battle]… “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” [1 Peter 5:8]
If the enemy is allowed to separate from the pack, divide to conquer, or make you feel DIFFERENT just enough, he can place that mustard seed size of doubt in you that will fester into a full size… “I must not be one of them or of Him.” Then, he can mess with you in all the other areas from there. The enemy comes to rob, kill, & destroy your life [this includes any joy you might have also]. DON’T LET him! The battle has already been won! Jesus was victorious then & still is today. HE fought [conquered death & the enemy] for you! You are HIS!!!
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I [Jesus] came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” [John 10:10]
Now that you know what you are running from, know Who you are running to. This is where we have to Focus! Daniel never would have made it out alive, had he not fixed his eyes on the Lord by faith. It is crucial that even we in this day and age look not at- all the things that seek to devour us [our circumstances, etc.], but to set our eyes, trust, and faith upon the One who can lift us out of any of them. Don’t look to the right, left, below, or behind… look at Jesus! And you can start to reach Him by calling Him.
I will never forget the message that Dr. Charles Stanley from InTouch Ministries impressed upon me several years ago using a portrait of Daniel in the Lion’s Den. Dr. Stanley was in the midst of his own battle when he was invited to dinner and led to the picture of Daniel & the lions. The question… ‘And where are Daniel’s eyes?’ [And also notable… where are they not? 😀 ] It made a world of difference to Dr. Stanley at that moment, and as a result, a worldwide blessing to us as well.
[The Relationship]… The Father in Heaven wants a personal relationship with each of His children, regardless of age, gender, birth order, employment [includes ministry, church position, etc.], or marital status. So if we, like Daniel, were to enter our house, with eyes, ears, minds, & hearts open toward God in Heaven; submitting ourselves first, then our families & lives to Him throughout the day, praying & giving thanks before God, then we’re also… Consumed, rather than eaten ALIVE! For the Lord knows each of His children inside & out [Psalm 139].
Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously.
[The Story]… We can’t stop with The Battle & The Relationship. We must share His Story with ours… how He with each of us have been conquerors in faith, survived the battles, the trials, tribulations, persecutions, & storms of this life, having died [sure feels like it], and yet have loved & lived with Him [marvelously I might add] to tell about it. My story is not your story, therefore, you are the one to tell it.
“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” [Revelation 12:11]
How will they know if no one tells them?
If only the wives and children of Daniel’s accusers [at the Lion’s Den] had known the God Daniel prayed to. If only someone had told them about Him. If they had each known Him personally, then their Leader would have been different and so would have been their #LIFE!
No matter who does what in front of you, or to you, God has your back ~&~
has you covered.
For all those still on the fence… At the very least, if you were to visualize a roaring lion approaching you from the rear, this may aid you in expediting your move forward. If you still don’t know where to look, look at your family and ask yourself “What’s for dinner?” 😉
As for me and my house… Consumed & ALIVE!
Daniel in the Lions’ Den
16 Then the king gave orders, and Daniel was brought in and cast into the lions’ den. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Your God whom you constantly serve will Himself deliver you.” 17 A stone was brought and laid over the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the signet rings of his nobles, so that nothing would be changed in regard to Daniel. 18 Then the king went off to his palace and spent the night fasting, and no entertainment was brought before him; and his sleep fled from him.
19 Then the king arose at dawn, at the break of day, and went in haste to the lions’ den. 20 When he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you constantly serve, been able to deliver you from the lions?” 21 Then Daniel spoke to the king, “O king, live forever! 22 My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.” 23 Then the king was very pleased and gave orders for Daniel to be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God. 24 The king then gave orders, and they brought those men who had maliciously accused Daniel, and they cast them, their children and their wives into the lions’ den; and they had not reached the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.
25 Then Darius the king wrote to all the peoples, nations and men of every language who were living in all the land: “May your peace abound! 26 I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel;
For He is the living God and enduring forever, And His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed, And His dominion will be forever. 27 “He delivers and rescues and performs signs and wonders In heaven and on earth, Who has also delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
28 So this Daniel enjoyed success in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
